thedailywhat: PROTIP of the Day: If you’re going to mug someone, make sure they’re not mixed-martial artists.

Better still — don’t mug people.
24-year-old Anthony Miranda, a convicted felon, was arrested and charged with armed robbery and aggravated discharge of a firearm after a botched attempt to mug an unidentified victim who turned out to be an MMA champ.
According to police, Miranda approached the victim’s parked car on Chicago’s Southwest Side last Friday and demanded money while brandishing a handgun.
Initially successful, Miranda pressed his luck and ordered the man to step out of the vehicle. It was then that the tables were turned and Miranda soon found himself being pummelled by the victim.
During the scuffle, Miranda’s gun discharged and he was shot in the ankle.
His various wounds were treated at Holy Cross Hospital, and he is currently being held on $350,000 bail.

White supremacist principal running Bronx school with majority black and Latino students

whaaaaaaaaat!?

BY Corinne Lestch

A firebrand educator with ties to a white supremacist group is running a Bronx Catholic school where most of the students are black and Latino, the Daily News has learned.

Frank Borzellieri, 48, was quietly promoted to principal of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School two years ago - despite a history of controversial writings and campaigns, including a push to ban a biography on the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

In 2004, Borzellieri wrote the book “Don’t Take It Personally: Race, Immigration, Crime and Other Heresies,” in which he declares “diversity is a weakness” and says the rising black and Hispanic populations in America will lead to the “New Dark Age.”

Weird & Wild: “Spongebob” Mushroom Named

who lives in a pineapple under the sea? - SCIENCE!!

Posted by Christine Dell’Amore of National Geographic News

Mushrooms are poisonous, hallucinogenic, glowing, and now, thanks to a new study, named after a children’s cartoon character.

The new species, Spongiforma squarepantsii— found in 2010 in Sarawak, Malaysia—has a spongy appearance that reminded scientists of TV’s Spongebob Squarepants.

“It’s just like a sponge with these big hollow holes,” San Francisco State University’s Dennis Desjardin said in a statement. “When it’s wet and moist and fresh, you can wring water out of it and it will spring back to its original size. Most mushrooms don’t do that.” (Read more about the mushroom.)

There’s only one other species known so far in the Spongiforma genus, which lives in central Thailand and has a different color and odor. S. squarepantsii has a bright orange hue and smells “vaguely fruity or strongly musty,” according to the study, published in May in the journal Mycologia.

Sam Raimi And Danny Elfman Make Up, Get Back Together For OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL | BAD

By Devin Faraci

A few years ago Danny Elfman and Sam Raimi had a falling out. What kind of a falling out? Well, back when I was at CHUD I got this interview with Elfman:

Elfman: Spider-Man 2 was a miserable experience.

Q: Why? Was it too fast or –

Elfman: It’s a complicated thing.

Q: Why was it complicated?

Elfman: My connection to Sam got completely severed. As far as I’m concerned, he went to sleep and somebody put a pod next to him and when he awoke, he wasn’t the same person I’ve known for a decade.
